OVERVIEW
AEM’s EMS-4 Universal Standalone Programmable Engine Management System is the ideal standalone Engine Management System for modified Powersports and four-cylinder race car applications. The EMS-4 was created using AEM's powerful Series 2 hardware and includes all of its advanced features without the unneeded ancillary components.

WHY YOU WANT THIS
If you have modified your four-cylinder Powersports application beyond the factory ECU’s ability to control engine operation, or have a 4-cylinder race vehicle that does not require some of the advanced hardware features of an AEM Series 2 plug n play System , AEM’s EMS-4 provides complete engine control for the maximum power and reliability.


THE HARDWARE
AEM’s EMS-4 provides complete engine control for small engines with up to 4 cylinders. The unit includes a 36-pin connetor that is specifically designed to operate in harsh environments. It is completely sealed and weather/shock proof, allowing it to be mounted anywhere. The EMS-4 works with MAG or HALL crank inputs and can directly drive smart coils or an external ignitor such as AEM’s 4-Channel Coil Driver.

Walbro Fuel Pump

Walbro In-tank Fuel Pump Specs

Walbro has been making OEM pumps and aftermarket pumps for many years.  A few years ago, they added in-tank high pressure pumps for fuel injected vehicles to their aftermarket line. Their two most popular aftermarket in-tank high performance pumps are their 190 ltr/hr pump and their 255 ltr/hr pump.
Their first FI pump was a 190 ltr/hr pump. It was created for the Mustang. It also fit in the Turbo Regals quite well.  They recently created a modified version of the 190 ltr/hr pump so it can fit in many other pump hanger brackets (e.g. Probe, Miata, etc.).  With a 12 volt power source, these pumps flow 190 ltr/hr at 0 psi, 155 ltr/hr at 40 psi.
Later, they created a 255 ltr/hr pump  This pump has the same fittings as the original 190 ltr/hr pump.  They later created another 255 ltr/hr pump to match the fittings of the Probe pump.  Later, they discovered if the output fittings of the Probe pump were turned 180 degrees, that the pump would fit some other applications (RX-7, 1st-Gen DSM), hence a third 255 ltr/hr pump was born.  These pumps flow 255 ltr/hr at 40 psi, and 285 ltr/hr at 0 psi.



Then, they put a different pressure-relief spring in a standard 255 ltr/hr pump.  That raised the output of the pump above 50 psi of fuel pressure.  Walbro builds all three versions of the original 255 ltr/hr pump in "high pressure" versions.

BASIC CAMSHAFT KNOWLEDGE

A camshaft actuates (opens and closes) the engine valves. Rotating at one-half the crankshaft or engine speed, the camshaft is responsible for the correct timing (with respect to piston location) of air/fuel mixture and exhaust gas flow in and out of each cylinder.
In today's cars, the camshaft is located in either the engine block - an overhead valve design (OHV), or in the cylinder head in the overhead cam layout (OHC). Some engines even employ a double overhead cam (DOHC) design in which there are two camshafts - one for the intake valves and the other for the exhaust.
Although there are differences in physical construction, the operating principle is the same in either case. As the camshaft rotates, the lobe pushes up on a lifter or down on the lash or valve cap. In an OHV engine, a pushrod is seated in the lifter and acts as an intermediate link between the lifter and rocker arm.
In both engine designs, the rocker arm or lash cap compresses the valve spring to open the valve. As the cam continues to rotate, the force is relieved and the valve closes.Usually, the contour on both sides of the lobe is the same (the contour, or profile, controls the acceleration of the valve). However, if it differs from side to side, the camshaft is said to be asymmetric. The Ford 2300cc engine has asymmetric lobes. If the intake and exhaust lobes have different profiles, the camshaft is referred to as dual pattern design. Some of the so-called "mileage" camshafts are dual pattern.
The measurement that indicates the amount, in inches, that the cam opens a valve is the lift. There are two types of lift - cam lift and valve lift. Cam lift is the distance the lifter is raised by the cam lobe. Valve lift is the amount of valve spring compression (how much the valve opens) due on the mechanical advantage of the rocker arm. (OHC engines that do not use cam followers or rocker arms measure valve lift directly by cam lift. In these engines, cam lift and valve lift are identical.)
